My newborn son used to sleep right throughout the day and be wide awake at night. I started to keep his surroundings and the house noisy and play with him during the day. At night I spoke to him in a soft tone, didn't play with him and sing lullabies to him to fall asleep. Now he sleeps all throughout the night and has short naps during the day. It takes time so don't give up.
